DescriptionThe spinning globe is from Compton, CA and originally identified an Earl Scheib auto painting franchise. The company slogan was “Any Car, Any Color: $19.95.” Because the cost was so cheap, you had to cover your own tires, windshield and chrome or they would’ve painted right over them. This sign is one of the few the Museum chose to repaint. The paint was completely gone as was the Saturn-like ring and the neon cars, but the sign was so cool it received a complete restoration, which is very unusual for the Museum as signs are displayed as close to how they appeared at their original location as possible to honor and preserve the signs’ histories. In the case of Earl Scheib, that policy meant leaving the bullet hole. You can still see the entry and exit point of the bullet that shot through the globe between the yellow and pink cars.
