About the Library
The American Sign Museum Library & Resource Center is a comprehensive collection of more than 1,000 reading and research materials about the art and history of American signage. The noncirculating catalogue documents, teaches and preserves the art and history of sign-making.
What else you’ll find: technical manuals on sign-making techniques such as gold-leafing, hand-lettering, enameling, neon handling and brush-scripting; academic, historical, biographical and autobiographical resources; specialized magazines such as Signs of the Times, SignCraft, and Letterheads; vintage sales materials such as catalogues and spec sheets; and rare books (special request only). You can also browse the full, hardbound collection of the Sign of the Times magazine collection, 1906 to 2020.

Who is this resource for?
The Library is available for all researchers and learners by appointment only, and is free with Museum admission. 2-hour time slots can be requested Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10am-4pm. Please request your appointment 3 weeks in advance, and allow one week for an ASM staff member to confirm your appointment. All users must follow the ASM Library Guidelines.
