Chas Brenheiser & Sons Gilded Glass Sign
Object/Artifact
This large glue-chipped and gilded mahogany-framed glass sign was created at the turn of the 20th century by the revered Rawson and Evans Company of Chicago, who was known for its fancy “chipped glass signs" for a cigar store in Chicago owned by the Breneiser family. In addition to the gilding, other handmade techniques like glue-chipping and split drop-shading were used.
The sign was restored by former Charter Museum Trustee, Rick Glawson of Fine Gold Signs, Wilmington, CA when the Museum acquired it.
