Buick Motor Cars Smalts Sign
Object/Artifact
This single-faced, painted smalts sign was made around 1910 and was likely never installed due to its excellent condition. The top portion of the sign would have been mass-produced. The lower white panel would have been left blank for a local signpainter to add a local dealer's name, such as what reads here, "Seaker-Graves Motor Co.," and the town, "Gouveneur" of New York. Notice how the lettering in the top portion is very crisp while the lower copy, lettered by the local signpainter is also crisp, but not as well spaced. You can see that the "Co." was condensed or squeezed in so as to fit better.
