Ernest Gabler immigrated in 1851. In 1854, he established his own piano company in New York City. Later, his brother Emil, who also had a musical instrument company, merged their businesses to form the hugely successful company of Ernest Gabler & Brother. In the 1800s, they were known for beautiful and expensive pianos, including square grands and uprights. In the early 20th century, the company had built their own complete line of baby grands and player pianos; additionally, they manufactured “Faber Piano Company” and “Baus Piano Company” brand pianos.
