Signs of the Times Magazine Cover Glass Art
Object/Artifact
Signs of the Times magazine published themed issues from time-to-time at the end of the last century, including several issues themed around gilding. Museum founder, Tod Swormstedt, who was an editor at the time, commissioned gilded glass pieces to serve as the covers for three of these themed issues.
This October, 1984 was the first in the series, and was designed and created by Gary Volkman. The reverse glass piece also carried a turn-of-the-century design theme, utilizing many of the same classic techniques of glass decoration such as marbling, cross hatch goldleaf and engine-turned goldleaf.
