MaClellan Bros. Gilded Wooden Sign
Object/Artifact
This circa 1910 wooden sign has hand-carved, gilded letters mounted against a smalts background. At some point, the letters were varnished to protect the gilded finish, which unfortunately had the opposite effect in that they yellowed over time and compromised the brilliance of the goldleaf. C.I. Brink was a major sign company serving the Boston area in the first half of the 20th century.
