For centuries, editorial cartoonists have used signs and symbols in their work as visual shorthand to clearly and efficiently express their opinions to audiences. Editorial cartoonist Kevin Necessary explores the use of symbols in his own and others’ editorial cartoons and explains why this once thriving artform should still matter in today’s media landscape.

About the speaker: Kevin Necessary is a cartoonist and illustrator. He’s drawn hundreds of caricatures as an award-winning editorial cartoonist and has illustrated two picture books and counting.
