DescriptionThis large-scale neon sign is one part of an originally two-part signage that advertised the former Kona Lanes bowling alley in Costa Mesa, CA, epitomized the mid-century-modern, Googie and Tiki-styles of southern California advertising. Despite a well-organized grassroots effort to save the much-loved bowling alley, in summer of 2003, the sign was saved when the property was demolished. Thanks to friends through the California Sign Association, its last-minute rescue was coordinated and the sign was shipped 2,200 miles to Cincinnati via Landstar. Maier Signs Inc., nearby in Milford, OH, assisted with unloading the large sign at the Museum.
