Jacob Engle Ghost Sign

A sizable ghost sign for the Jacob Engle Dry Goods Store, which opened as a cornerstone business for Wellington in 1892, is finally being restored. The sign itself is 15 feet high, 50 feet long and 36 feet above the ground, but it wasn't always so easy to see. In 1915, a Masonic Lodge building was constructed next to the building, so close that it obscured the sign from view. In 2018 an earthquake led to the old Masonic Lodge being demolished and the dry goods store sign was once again visible, however faded.
