Many of the vintage signs around Seattle, WA have caught up with the times having since been updated with modern LED substitutes. One of the exceptions is the Public Market Center signage at Pike Place Market, which has been a local icon since the 1950s. The sign's preservation is due largely in part to the historical significance of the area which is maintained by a Preservation and Development Authority. Many of the other signs in the region have not been so lucky, having since fallen into disrepair because of the high cost associated with maintaining these vintage signs.
