C.I. Brink Sign Tag

Charles Iver Brink founded the C.I. Brink Sign Company sometime in the 1890s. Brink was born in Engelholm, Sweden in 1867, but moved to Dorchester, MA in 1892 and shortly after opened his sign shop. When C.I. Brink passed in 1936, his son, John C. Brink, had already taken over the company. In the late 1920s-early 1930s, John went to Europe in order to learn more about neon tube bending and neon signs. He quickly realized that his company needed to add neon and C.I. Brink soon became an  early licensee of Claude Neon.

C.I. Brink was well known for the Citgo sign located in Kenmore Square in Boston. It featured over five miles of neon tubing requiring about 250 transformers in order to operate. According to C.I. Brink’s great grandson, there was a dedicated person on staff whose sole job was to maintain the Citgo sign.
