Single-faced hand-painted wooden sign featuring a smalts background. Sign states, “Bronze Memorial Tablets & Signs.”
Brakmeier Bros was located in Louisville, KY and were well known for their quality bronze tablets, metal signs, rubber stamps, stencils, and marking devices. It was founded by Gus Brakmeier in the late 1800s, early 1900s. The earliest mention I was able to find was in the 1908 Louisville City Directory. Brakmeier was known around the area as being one of the top chess players in Louisville. They were located at 112 S. 4th St. in a 3-story white building that housed 1-2 additional businesses.
