Statement from seller to museum, “This lucite encased piece of Coca Cola history once dominated the Atlanta downtown landscape, as a portion of the world renowned neon advertising Coca Cola sign, formerly located on the Margaret Mitchell Square in downtown Atlanta, GA (Atlanta is still the company home base of Coca Cola). The sign was erected in 1948, and was removed from its original site in 1981, to make way for the development of a city park. There was a lot of public opposition to the removal of this old landmark, to no avail. A close friend who is very knowledgeable in Coca-Cola collectibles, said that because of its significance in the culture and history of the city, some of the sign was salvaged and a few small pieces were preserved in these high quality, acrylic lucite squares to be presented by city officials to prominent residents and visiting dignitaries to Atlanta. He said that they were never sold or introduced to the general public, and are therefore, very difficult to find today. I have never seen one of these offered for sale here in Atlanta . The stainless steel piece is embedded in front of a photo of this sign as it appeared in Atlanta for many years. There is a detailed history of the three Coca-Cola advertising signs that have been placed in the Margaret Mitchell Square from 1932-1981. The lucite piece is in mint condition.”
