Cassius Clay Sr., (1912-1990) was the father of Cassius Clay AKA Muhammad Ali, world-famous boxer and heavy weight world champion. Clay Sr., was based in Louisville, KY and made living painting signs, billboards as well as ecclesiastical paintings in Baptist churches throughout Kentucky. He was primarily active as a sign painter between the 1940s and the 1960s.

The sign advertises a Louisville-area beauty shop and includes Clay Sr.’s name and number. It was purchased by the donor’s brother who’d found it at a yard sale and later willed to the donor upon their passing.
