The Nestle Ice Cream Company USA was formed in 1990 when the Carnation Ice Cream Company of Los Angeles, the Drumstick Ice Cream Company of Columbus Ohio, and the Ice Cream Division of the Nestle Candy Company of Westchester, New York were combined into one company by their owner Nestlé S.A. a Swiss multinational consumer goods company headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland, the largest food company in the world. The newly formed Nestle Ice Cream Company manufactured, marketed, and sold numerous famous American ice cream novelty brands such as Drumstick Sundae Cones, Butterfinger Ice Cream Bars, Flintstones Sherbet Push-Ups, Nestle Crunch Ice Cream Bars, Toll House Ice Cream Sandwiches, Dole Fruit’n Juice Bars, Bon Bon Ice Cream Nuggets, Heath Ice Cream Bars, Baby Ruth Ice Cream Bars, Nesquik Ice Cream Bars, Whoppers Malt Cups, and Carnation Ice Cream pints. During the 1990’s the Nestle Ice Cream Company grew its market share to be the dominant competitor in the 4 billion dollar frozen novelty marketplace. The Nestle Ice Cream Company showed particular strength and growth in the Away From Home Segment of the category which included sales of ice cream novelties in amusement parks, street vending, convenience stores, theaters, schools, gas stations, hardware stores and sports/special event venues just to name a few. Visibility was the key to increasing sales and gaining market share within the Away From Home Segment. Signage was the key to this needed visibility. The Nestle Ice Cream Sales Team placed over 80,000 small Nestle Ice Cream branded frozen novelty freezers in Away From Home sales outlets. In order to make these freezers visible to consumers, many types of signage was used including: neon signs, sidewalk signs, window static cling signs, high back pasteboard attached to the freezers, ceiling danglers, and café umbrellas. In the late 1990’s Nestle S.A. purchased the Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Company and the Dreyer’s (Edy’s) Ice Cream Company in order to increase the Nestle share of the packaged ice cream market place. The Nestle Ice Cream Company was then folded into the Dreyer’s Ice Cream Company and the Nestle Ice Cream Company name was no longer used.
