Double-faced pan plastic, internally illuminated sign reads, “Glidden Paints – Hostetter’s.”
Sign was purchased at the annual Hershey Auto show.
Established in 1875 in Cleveland, OH originally called Glidden, Brackett, and Company, but by 1890 it was incorporated as The Glidden Varnish Company. During the 1920s the company expanded and acquired many chemical and pigment companies. By 1948 they introduced the first water-born latex paint, Spread Satin which helped reduce the use of petroleum-based solvent in paint. Glidden was purchased in 1986 by British conglomerate ICI and by the end of 2012 PPG Industries had acquired Glidden for just over $1 billion.
Very Good: Sign is in working condition but some faded paint–particularly on red in “Glidden Paint.”
